There are many benefits to be gained from using homeschool worksheets with your children. They can easily satisfy the specific needs or requirements for your child or you, the parent-teacher. They can provide enrichment if you need to supplement the assignments included in the core curriculum. Sometimes a child becomes really engrossed in a topic and wants to dig beyond what is presented in the textbook. In this case, an extra printable could give him additional information or activities to complete. They can be used for remedial instruction if a child needs additional lessons. This commonly occurs in math lessons when a child may need extra practice pages. Occasionally, a child may need to have the material presented using an alternate method than what is shown in the textbook to help him "see it." Homeschool worksheets can also be used as rewards or just for fun! They can provide enjoyable yet constructive "breaks" from a rigorous course of study. We have spent many afternoons completing word searches, crossword puzzles, and other types of activities, after finishing a unit.

Know the authors background. This person needs to have a background in education and, ideally, should be trained in the latest educational methods, like brain-based teaching/learning. I personally would never use any materials with my child that didnt specifically mention being "brain-based." I am not talking about just "research-based." I see more and more sites claiming to have research-based materials, but what I find is definitely NOT based on how the brains actually learns. Brain-based learning is relatively new in the educational world, but most worksheet sites and materials are using old science or, more often, no science at all.
What, three thousand pages, and still cant figure out how to start? How could this be? Okay, so Im exaggerating a little bit. I started to break the stories up into groupings around general themes-it helps when I organize things into groups, so I can apply some sort of selection criteria for seemingly unrelated data points (who says that thirty years in business doesnt have its rewards)? Gradually, I began grouping the stories into several broad headings: scientific discoveries; life-forms (which included aliens, man-made life and artificial life); the search for meaning (which includes the search for God or the gods); the death of a group of men, a nation, race, or system; the meaning of morality.
